What Kinds of Questions Are You Asking Yourself?

POWER JOURNALING                                                                       October 28, 2008

Questions are very powerful.

The mind is an obedient researcher, looking for answers to pretty much any question we consider. And, we ask ourselves questions all the time. Unfortunately, these questions are usually automatic and not necessarily useful. Often they involve judging and criticizing ourselves or others, such as:

“Why did he do that?”  “Why can’t I just …?”   " Why don’t they understand?”

Obediently, our minds start to work on answers, responding with things like:

 “He’s a jerk. I don’t know why I stay with him.”

“I don’t know—I can’t help it.”

“I’m trapped—I can’t ever do or have what I want because they won’t let me.”

These answers stimulate more of the same kind of questions, the mind responds with reinforcing answers, and the circular pattern continues.

Because our minds search for answers to virtually everything we ask, these questions have a lot of power in our lives.  They tend to influence the way we relate to our circumstances, and shape how we feel and the actions we take in any given moment.

 Creating New Habits of Thought

But what if you could re-program your automatic habits of thought so that your questions and answers are more affirming and empowering?  For example, what if, each day, because you have developed a new habit of thought, you began to  notice more things that you like about your spouse, or the people you work with--without even trying?  How would that impact your relationships?

The Customized Explorations Journaling practice allows you to create new and empowering habits of thought that will generate results in any area of your life.  Try it out!  Click here to download a FREE page from our Explorations in Fulfilling Relationships Journal.  Print as many copies as you like.  Enjoy it, and please share with us any miracles, "Aha!" moments or comments you may have through our Customized Explorations Blog.

Thanks for tuning in to this issue of POWER JOURNALING. In November, we’ll take a look at the many other benefits that journaling as a regular practice provides.

Be well and happy,
